TimberStrong:  Frequently Asked Questions

Why use TimberStrong Panels instead of conventional single board installation methods?

Increased productivity on the job site, which equates to lower labor costs, is the number one reason to use TimberStrong Panels! We encourage you to view the installation video as well as read the case study to better understand how the panelized TimberStrong System can save you money.

Can the panels be manufactured with various types of decking?

Yes, the panels can be made with various wood species such as Pressure Treated, Ipe, Cedar, etc., as well as most brands of composite decking.
* We don’t limit your decking options, we encourage them.

Which brand of Composite Decking does TimberStrong recommend?

We have researched many brands of composite decking and can honestly say NyloDeck™ out performs its competitors in numerous categories such as strength, moisture absorption and color fade.

You can learn more about NyloDeck by visiting their web site at www.nyloboard.com

What panel widths are available?

Panels can be made in virtually any width, up to 12 feet wide.

Why offer different spacing options between deck boards?

Because our panels may be used in environmentally sensitive areas such as marinas, light penetration to Submerged Aquatic Vegetation (SAV) is a major concern and is usually dictated by local or federal environmental agencies. The TimberStrong Fasteners are available in ¼”, ⅜, ½” sizes. Spacing size should be specified when the order is placed, otherwise all panels are supplied with a ½-inch space between boards.

Where are TimberStrong Fasteners located on the panels?

Normally the fasteners are located on approximately 2-foot centers, but can be customized to a customer’s exact joist layout at no additional charge.

How are the panels attached to the supporting joist system?

If the fasteners are located directly in line with the corresponding joists, fastening can take place directly through the TimberStrong Fastener. For irregular joist layouts, the decking can be attached directly through the deck surface**.

When attaching the decking through the TimberStrong Fastener how many fasteners should be used?

We recommend that fastening should be made through all TimberStrong Fasteners.

Are panels removable so such things as utilities can be accessed?

Yes, we offer a split fastener which allows for easy removal and reinstallation of panels.

What if a deck board gets damaged? Can it be easily replaced?

Yes, a single board can easily be removed and a new one installed in its place by the use of the Split TimberStrong Fastener.

Can the end of a panel be trimmed or notched around such things as a piling?

Yes, because the attachment between deck boards is not at the edge of the panel trimming or notching can be easily completed to fit a customer’s specific layout.

Where can I purchase TimberStrong Panels?

We recommend contacting one of our sales staff to locate your nearest TimberStrong dealer.
