Freedom Elite, Entertainment Cruises

  • Project Name Freedom Elite, Entertainment Cruises
  • Description Penn’s Landing, located on the Delaware River in Philadelphia, PA, is the homeport for Entertainment Cruises’ newest cruise ship, Freedom Elite. The project required decking for the 4-foot by 80-foot gangway and gangway landing.
  • Challenge BoardSafe, the manufacturer of the gangway and landing, was looking for an upscale decking product that would be cost-efficient to install. The decking also required a hidden fastening system.
  • TimberStrong Solution Our sales consultant suggested the use of grooved Ipe decking. Ipe is a hardwood from Brazilian rainforests that is so dense it often needs to be predrilled before pieces can be attached to the deck substructure. Some compare its strength to that of steel. Using the TimberStrong Panel System eliminated the need to cut or predrill the decking. All attachment was made through the fastener and not the deck surface.

“Using Ipe deck panels from TimberStrong allowed us to supply our customer with a beautifully finished product, without eating into our bottom line labor costs. In fact, it took considerably less time than we had budgeted.”—BoardSafe Docks
